Projects: Electric 6X6
conversion (TC1);
Purpose;
To covert 6x4 trucks into 6x6 electric hybrid trucks.
Status: Prototype,
ready for testing. "TC1"
will be driven from Sydney on the east coast of Australia to Albany in Western
Australia. That's nearly 4,000 kms or approx 2486 miles. This will help prove
the durability of the conversion, prior to Offroad field tests in TimberCorp's
harvesting operations. We will be leaving on the 22nd of September 2008.
Departure date has been postpond, still waiting the battery shipment from the US. The map
below compares the continent sizes of Australia (black line) the USA
(blue line)
and the UK (red
shading).

Timbercorp are currently using MAN 6X6 trucks for shunt duties. Comparative
testing will be conducted between these two trucks by the CRC for Forestry
and TimberCorp during harvesting operations in Albany WA.
Component Position;
Standard 6x4 vehicles can be converted to 6x6
drive by using this system. The vehicle will perform as an "electric
hybrid truck" with the advantage of 6 wheel drive for off-road or slippery
road conditions. The front non drive front axle is replaced with a planetary steer drive
axle. This axle is close coupled with an electric motor/generator. The front axle
speed is controlled by the electric speedometer drive.
